To end my Fall Means...series, let's talk about one of the best parts of fall: the food!

I can't think about food without remembering my Papa.

Mimi, my Aunt Joy, Papa and Me
Food is a special thing my Papa and I shared, specially our favorite dessert. My Papa is well-known in our family for LOVING apple pie. He loved it sweet and simple: no cheese, whip cream or ice cream, just straight-up fruity excellence. I remember many holidays where I sat next to him, eating our favorite food.

My mom would always make an apple pie special for Papa when he came to visit us. Now that my Papa has passed, apple pie is one of the best ways for us to still feel close to him. My mom often makes an apple pie in celebration of his birthday. Whenever I visit my Mimi, she usually makes me an apple pie too.

Food can be more than nourishment for our bodies. Sometimes, it nourishes our soul too.

What fall food brings back good memories for you?
