Life is Better with Collages, Courtesy of Polyvore!

Ever wonder where all those beautiful fashion and beauty collages on blogs and Pinterest come from? Those were made with Polyvore. I used Polyvore to create the collages for my Hall of Fame series {see MakeupHair and Skincare, plus my simple formula for eye shadow application}.

Polyvore is much more than collages. It's also a social media site of sorts where users can share their "sets", or collages, with other users. Here's how to get started!

1. Go to and create an account with your Facebook or email.

2. Once you are logged in, choose the "Create" option in the top black toolbar.

3. You will then be taken to the create-a-collage board. On the right-hand side, you'll see many categories you can use to create the collage. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will look at "Beauty".

4. After you click on "Beauty", you will see a search bar in the top right. If you are looking for a particular item to add, you can type it in this search bar. You can also browse through items added by other users below.

I find it's most helpful to be specific in your search terms. For example, if you're looking for the Urban Decay Naked Palette, type those words in. If your search does not return any results, broaden your terms.

5. Once you find your item, click on it and then choose "Add to Set". The item will appear on your collage board where you can move it around or make change its size.

6. Once the collage is complete, you can add text, numbers and symbols! Simply go back to the "Home" tab and click on one of the two options in the bottom menu.

7. When you are happy with the collage, simply save it with the gray menu on the left-hand side. You will then be able to share it to Polyvore, other social media or generate a HTML code to place it on another Web site.

...what if your item is not already on Polyvore? Simple fix, my friends!

At the bottom of Polyvore's homepage, there is a gray "About" button. Click on it and a black menu will appear. Under the "Help" menu, choose "Clipper". This will lead you through the process of adding a Polyvore Clipper to your toolbar. When you are on a Web site with the item you want for your collage, simply click on the Clipper button in your toolbar and Polyvore will collect images for you to choose from. It's a very similar process to adding a new pin to Pinterest from a Web site.

Your items will then be located under the "My Items" tab on the create-a-collage board.

Please let me know if you have questions about using Polyvore! I would also love to see links to your collages. Happy creating!
